Letter From the Secretaries-General

Dear Esteemed Participants,

It is with immense pride and great anticipation that I welcome you to the Res Publica Model United Nations.

We are inspired in our conference by the classical vision of Res Publica, "public life", is born of the collective reason, civic virtue, and civic responsibility; a vision which has been our inheritance through our journey. Living in an uncertain, divided, and ever-changing world, critical thinking, thoughtful deliberation, and responsible action are more important now than ever. Res Publica is not only an international relations simulation, but it's also a place to test ideas, to question beliefs, and to help foster the future leaders. Each committee is representative of the complexities that make up our global order here! You can enjoy yourself by talking about sovereignty, justice, security, social development, or whatever, but you are also expected not only to represent the states you were assigned to but to participate in the debate on the principles of global cooperation. It is believed that this conference was established with the understanding that diplomacy is a discipline of understanding, rather than an art of negotiation. It takes patience to disagree, clarity to think, and a brave heart to see a way to fix what is wrong. These are the charachter we wish to develop during our sessions.

Over the next few days, you will encounter some of these challenges and will have to be creative, resilient, and cooperative. You'll be required to take up positions, adjust to crises, and face challenges with the complex balance between the interests of the nation and the collective good. But behind the protocol of debate and procedure is a more powerful element: the chance to develop, as thinkers, as speakers, as global citizens. So, as we come into this conference, I want each of you to be intellectually curious and confident. Be loud, be heard, and don't underestimate a good idea. Your actions here may be as limited as the committee, but the relationships, attitudes, and abilities will extend well beyond the committee!

And I would like to heartfully thank all the academic members, organisation teams, and participants who joined hands to make this Conference possible on our behalf, as a Secretariat team. Your dedication to service exemplifies the very essence of Res Publica.

Lastly, it is good to be pilgrimaging with you on this diplomatic, discursive, and discovery mission. We hope to see the excellence that you will bring to debate.
Cordially,

Bersun Akkaya

Secretary-General of Res Publica 2026 Model United Nations Conference
